A story that goes back for over 75 years…

A small settlement of WWII veterans and their families

In 1948, a group of active community members came together to create Valleyview, Central and Orchard Drives, Taylor Road and Parkview Drive. They were the inhabitants of this small community and had settled here after the war. They would go door-to-door and involve the neighbourhood in activities like building the old community hall, weekend dances, new year’s eve parties and fireworks.

The Arena

The old community hall was built on the property owned by the community in 1949. This property is what we now know as the Spring Valley Arena! The SVCA runs a canteen inside the building, serving kids and parents snacks and hot chocolate while they attend hockey games. If you’re looking to fulfill your volunteer hours or contribute to the community, you can request a time slot to volunteer.

Initiatives in the community

The association fostered the development of Ancaster Little League and Ancaster Minor Hockey which was open to all residents in Ancaster at the time. It also awarded scholarships to students, participated in toy drives, and organized dances and events. Today, we organize clean ups of the path, donate to Ancaster Community Services and hold the Santa Claus yearly visit.
